MHA #6, Monday Morning

After a couple of weird and busy weekends, in that order, it had been nice to have one that was just... normal. As normal as Fandom ever gets, anyway. So, you know. Nice, normal weekend, and hopefully a nice, normal week following it...

The weird thing, though, was that Liam was sleeping in. Really sleeping in, and not his usual "woke up and went for a run and then crawled back into bed to snuggle" or "woke up and read for a few hours", either. Genuine, honest-to-god, asleep sleeping in. Which was definitely the first clue that something was amiss, because that only ever happened on those weekends. You know the ones.

Except this was a Monday. And everyone knew the weird shit didn't happen on Mondays (unless the island was hopping through various alternate realities, of course.). So Liam could possibly be forgiven for not having any idea that anything was strange just yet, sleepily reaching for Verity to pull her in closer.

Liam just smirked and held out a hand, palm-up, mark of the shaqarava plainly visible.

"I won't have any logic sass from you," Verity declared, biting down on Liam's neck.

Not hard, exactly. But firm.

Any retort Liam had was abandoned in favor of a somewhat undignified soft little moan. Looks like that particular erogenous zone had survived the physical transformation.

"You still respond the same," Verity murmured in his ear, surprisingly turned on by the sound.

It was a little higher in pitch, sure, but her body recognized it anyway. And reacted.

"Surprised?" Liam managed. She knew how much he loved being kissed- or bit, apparently- in just that spot.

"Interesting to see what is and isn't the same," Verity said, nipping him there again.

"Mmmm," Liam hummed appreciatively. "Research, huh?"

"Something like that," Verity said, tilting his head to give him a kiss for real.

Research.

From Liam’s perspective, this didn’t feel all that different either, his tongue finding hers as he melted in to that kiss.

Liam's mouth felt a little different if Verity stopped to think about it. His lips fuller and softer, mostly, and their shape was not the same as a result. But everything else? Especially the feelings the kiss evoked, of warmth and love and, yes, even desire?

Entirely the same.

What were lips compared to that?

Nothing was what.

His fingers, too, were the-same-but-different, still long and slim as one hand skimmed along her side, but also smaller.

The nails were longer, leaving gooseflesh trailing up her back.

But the feeling she got when she twined their hands together?

The same, down to the way their hearts seemed to thud in unison.

And that last little lingering tendril of worry Liam had slipped away as their palms met, replaced by the love and affection flowing between them, through them.

"So, like, does this mean I'm bi now?" Verity teased, folding her fingers over Liam's and laughing.

“Certainly a little more flexible than you thought,” Liam teased right back. “Which you wouldn’t think would be possible, all things considered...”

"That sounds like a request to have me demonstrate my flexibility for you again," Verity said, waggling her eyebrows.

"Well," he grinned. "You know how much I love those demonstrations."

Verity grinned at him - and then that expression changed to something more nervous. A little shy.

"Is it okay if I don't, umm, leap into everything right away?" she asked, knowing Liam's answer but needing to hear it anyway. "I don't know how - I've never -"

Look, she was coming around to the idea of sex with her fiance in a woman's body, but she wasn't sure she was ready for everything.

"Of course," Liam said vehemently. "I'm never going to insist you do something you're not comfortable with, my love." They'd had this conversation, of course, but that didn't mean Liam wasn't aware of how important it was to have these things reiterated out loud, sometimes.

Especially when someone was faced with a whole concept they'd never considered before and was having small anxieties over it.

"I know, I know," Verity said with a small smile. "I'm just not used to being the one with no experience."

Oh god was she actually blushing now? Jesus Christmas she was.

And was Liam biting his lip to keep from grinning too widely at that blushing, because it was adorable? Maybe.

"I wouldn't say no experience," Liam pointed out. "After all, you know what a- body like this- responds to. That's a start."

"A start," Verity conceded.

But bodies were different even if parts were the same and she knew what she responded to, but not what Liam did, at least not like this and--

"Dammit," she muttered, "I'm supposed to be the cool one."

"Babe, hey. Hey," Liam said softly, brushing a hand across her cheek. "You're worrying too much."

Verity leaned against him and closed her eyes. "I don't mean to make a big deal out of this," she said. "Especially since you're not."

Liam considered that. "I think," he said slowly, "if I were fully human? I probably would be freaking out, right about now."
